Hundreds of years ago the Celtic people or the Celts lived in regions that are now Ireland, Britain and northern France. This was long-long back............. even before Jesus Christ. The Celts had a tradition of remembering those who had died and keeping the evil spirits peaceful. They did this every year on 31st October and it was called Samhain. But their practices were opposed to the Christian way. Hense, nearly seven hundred years after Christ the head of the Catholic church moved an important Christian day the all Saint's day to 1st November. He thought everyone would forget about Samhain.
It is a Christian festival in honour of all the Saints in heaven. Earlier it was celebrated on 1st of May. Did it work? the shifting of the festival? well..... no, It didn't work. People didn't forget about Samhain though it didn't spread as fast as it used to earlier.
But how did Halloween come about?
Since November 1st was the day of celebrating the Holy spirits the evening before that became the Holy evening or all Hallow Even. Hallow is the old word for Holy and Even is the old word for evening. Soon all Hallow Even became Halloween!
So it has nothing to do with dressing up?
It does! Dear, In fact, dressing up as spirits and ghosts became a part of the All Saints Day celebration because of people who celebrated Samhain believed that wearing scary costumes would scare away the evil spirits and keep them away. Just like the pumpkin you love to carve every Halloween.
Oh no! No the Jack-o-Lantern too!
Yes dear. People carve the pumpkin and keep it outside their homes to ward off the evil spirits. Wow, Tia! I never knew Halloween had such a different meaning. Thank you for telling me all this.
Five days before Christmas Eve Santa was working out in his gym practising his technique of dropping down thru chimneys without getting stuck. Santa has quite a possibility of that suddenly, one of his reindeers, Donders, came running in. He seemed rather distressed and worried. Santa Santa..... Harry, the snowman has run away. I am panicking? calm down Donder. There is nothing to worry about. I will personally sort out Harry's problems and bring him back home, safe and sound.
Donder, alert the elves and begin a search whilst. I head back to my sleigh. Santa took off to the skies to find Harry. One place, as he looked down he saw Harry alone in the snow heading away from Santa's village. Harry, Harry can you hear me?
Santa pulled down and landed just beside Harry but Harry ignored Santa and kept walking jump aboard Harry. Get back in. Harry! But Harry kept on walking away. Santa shouted again Harry, please listen to me. Talk to Santa! Harry slowly turned around looked at Santa with tears in his eyes. Harry my dear there comes a point in everybody's life when you feel like running away. But that is not the answer. That's not the right thing to do. Please tell Santa your problems.
Harry looked at Santa and broke down Uhuuuuun! No one ever listens to me, no one has time for me why me? I am just a stupid worthless snowman nobody loves me! Santa walked up to Harry and hugged him, Harry, my boy! you are not worthless. Dry your eyes wipe your face. come I want to show you how important you are. Jump aboard Harry, Hohohoho.
Harry looked at Rudolph. He had his head hung low. Rudolph my boy, take to the skies I ordered. Let's prove to Harry how important he really is. Rudolph smiled and looked at Harry and off we go! Hohohoho. As they travelled around the world. Santa showed Harry millions of snowmen all built by children, having fun with the help of their family and friends.
Look, Harry. Building snowmen bring people together. Harry, imagine a Christmas without a snowman. It'll be incomplete. No fun! Imagine our family without you! Rudolph take us home, I command, Let's go! While the mood changed in the sleigh and everybody was happy they approached the north pole.
Look, Harry, they looked down of the sleigh and could see written in the snow, in huge letters welcome home Harry! We Love you! Everybody from Santa's village was there too, to welcome Harry back home. This made Harry so happy. Everyone clapped for Santa. Hmmmm........Harry could've made a big mistake by running away. But that is not the answer. Just talk to someone and you'll find the ones, who have time for you and who truly care.
MARRY CHRISTMAS.
Once upon a time, there lived a boy named Cussly. He had grown to be a naughty kid. He pushed his friends down bullied them and wanted his way around in everything his friends were soft and forgiving in nature. They just put up with his harsh and rough behaviour thinking he would change. He had the bad habit of tearing his books throwing his clothes and breaking his toys. It was not going to be long before someone taught him a lesson. It was a nice sunny day. His mom yelled out. Cussly, your room looks like a garbage bin, your clothes, toys and books are all over the floor. I need the floor cleaned up with all your things put in place.
I will be paying a visit to your room pretty soon. You don't want to be grounded! Do you? Did you hear me?
Yeah, yeah, Loud and clear. I will make sure the floor is cleaned up.
Wow, that was fast this does not look like your room. Good job, come on. Let's go for a stroll and grab an ice cream. It's a treat for your hard work. Mommy, I feel tired and sleepy. Dinner is ready, have an early dinner and hit the sack. Yeah. Ok.
Whow, I so forgot that I had dumped these things on the bed. Now, get out of my bed and get back to where you belong. Cussly threw his books to the floor. He tossed his toys around and dumped his bed. Now, that my bed is cosy. Let me put off the light and go to sleep. The next moment Cussly was deep in sleep and was snoring away to glory. He started to mumble he started to toss and turn in his sleep. The toy monster truck zooms past trying to crush his toes. The books flew around, crashing a Giant storybook that was hanging on the rack above him crashed on to his head with a There was a loud thud. Cussly had rolled off the bed and was on the floor. He woke up shrieking, startled, dazed and sweaty. Whoa, what was that! Looks like I had a Dreadful dream. It was more of a nightmare.
Let me get up put my things in order. Let me put them where they belong. From that day onwards. He realized his folly and decided to be gentle to one and all. He promised, that he will take good care of his books and toys.
